Montezuma Beaches

Discover the magic of Montezuma, a charming bohemian beach town where pristine nature meets vibrant culture at the tip of Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula.

Montezuma beaches

Montezuma’s stunning coastline is just steps from Hotel nYa, offering you easy access to some of Costa Rica’s most beautiful Pacific beaches. Each beach has its own character, from calm swimming spots to exciting surf breaks.

Playa Montezuma

The main beach sits right in town, perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and watching spectacular sunsets. The golden sand beach extends along the coastline, offering plenty of space to relax. Tide pools form during low tide, revealing colorful marine life and providing natural exploration opportunities.

Playa Grande

A short walk north leads to Playa Grande, a longer stretch of beach popular with surfers and those seeking more space. The consistent waves make it ideal for surfing lessons or experienced surfers looking for good breaks. This beach is part of Refugio Nacional de Vida Silvestre Romelia, a vital wildlife refuge that Hotel nYa proudly supports through conservation efforts. The protected status helps preserve nesting sites for sea turtles and maintains the natural coastal ecosystem.

Playa Colorada

South of town, this smaller beach offers a more secluded experience. The reddish sand gives it its name, and the calmer waters make it perfect for peaceful swimming and snorkeling.

Beach Activities

All beaches offer excellent swimming, beachcombing, and sunset viewing. Surfboard rentals and lessons are available in town. The tide pools at low tide reveal crabs, sea anemones, and small fish. Horseback riding along the beach can be arranged through local operators.

Walking distance

Playa Montezuma is less than a 3-minute walk from Hotel nYa. Playa Grande is about 10 minutes north, while Playa Colorada is 15 minutes south along the coastal path.
